Libassa Wildlife Sanctuary

Libassa Wildlife Sanctuary (Liwisa) was officially launched in May 2017 by the founders of Libassa Ecolodge, in collaboration with the Liberia Forestry Development Authority. Liwisa is an independant not for profit organization, organized exclusively for charitable purposes in order to protect and care for wild animals within the territorial borders of Liberia.

Liwisa is located within the Libassa forest, and is currently operating primarely with support from Libassa Ecolodge, the Forestry Development Authority, Humane Society International, Tikki Hywood Foundation, the European Union, and private donations.

Our missions:

1- Hold, care for, rehabilitate wild confiscated animals, and release those confiscated animals back into the wild whenever possible;

2- Protect Sea turtles nesting grounds, guide the hatchlings back to the wild (Atlantic Ocean);

3- Encourage Volunteer participation in nature work (protection, caretaking, release, etc…);

4- Provide employment opportunities for local communities.

5- Provide education to students, community dwellers and the general public, raise awareness on wildlife trafficking and the need to protect our wildlife heritage and forests

We solely depend on donations to cover our operational costs, which include food for the animals, drugs, maintenance, salaries, transportation for confiscations and release.

If you wish to donate, to sponsor an enclosure, or to sponsor an animal, do not hesitate to visit us www.libassaWildlifeSanctuary.org

Thank you for your generosity, and for helping us to save and protect Liberia's wildlife.
